Following on from Rough Skies Records Community compilations, showcasing Hobart's underground (mostly) guitar based music, comes a special collection of the more experimental and esoteric that the town has to offer. As is indicated by the number of acts on these previous compilations, despite Hobart's physical size, there is no shortage of talent. Convergence is no exception.

Hobart and Tasmania in general has had for a number of years an active community of experimental musicians and sound artists, performing in small venues and DIY events. But it has not been an easy ride, especially in regards to getting heard and seen outside the state. With the advent of both MONA FOMA and Dark MOFO the rest of the country is perhaps now being exposed to a small number of these musicians and whilst this is a good thing, it only happens during two small bursts during a single year. The curators and compilers of this collection are looking to spread the word and expose the artists beyond the Hobart music/arts scene.

Many of the acts curated into this first volume of the compilation work together, organise gigs, make self-produced releases, play the same bills or work in other bands. There is a real sense of community and of a convergent practice within this scene.

The curators have attempted to create a body of work that covers a sometimes contrasting, certainly variable cross-section of the Hobart experimental music and noise scene. Encouraged by the quality and volume of material received, a second volume will be produced and released in a few months time.
