The long-awaited fourth Community compilation, and the first one in which every song was written and recorded at the Hobart Underground Community Centre. The facility, true to its name, is located underground at a point in Glenorchy precisely between MONA and Mount Wellington (Hobart's two great looming shadows) and was built for the sole purpose of allowing Hobart's most vital musicians to hone their craft and reach their full potential, away from the distractions of their jobs, their families, and the daily violent fallout from Hobart City Council infighting. There is one set of doors leading into or out of the Community Centre tunnel, located behind a decoy trash pile at the Jackson Street Waste Management Centre, and they only open twice a year (at the June Solstice, and on the 29th of December, David Boon's birthday).

There's a question that may come to mind when you listen to Community 4: was it worth it? Was all the time and expense of the Community Centre's construction really necessary? Are the songs really that much improved as a result of their creators' forced isolation from personal responsibility, friendship, even weather? Were these artists not sufficiently brilliant already, when they wrote lyrics and hummed melodies during quiet moments at work, and saw the vapour of their breath inside their rehearsal spaces during the winter, and heard their friends say they were making plans to move to Melbourne, and felt sorrow but also acceptance, and then saw those same friends at a party less than a week later, and said, "Oh? Didn't you move to Melbourne?" No matter: those days have passed. Hobart's best and most exciting music comes from under the ground now. And what really goes on down there? We only have this excerpt.
